Why an Endowment Fund?
Why Should I Give?
The Betty Allen MASCD Endowment Fund supports initiatives that foster
instructional and curriculum leadership and ensure high quality teaching and
learning in Massachusetts.
In 2003, MASCD named the Endowment Fund for Betty Allen, who died while
serving as MASCD president. Betty was Superintendent of Schools in Danvers,
MA and a dynamic educational leader.
MASCD provides professional development in the form of conferences,
institutes, newsletters (Perspectives), books, listservs, position papers
(Speaks and FOCUS), online courses, and a web site.
MASCD collaborates with other professional associations. It sponsors the
Leadership Licensure Program, preparing new supervisors, principals and
superintendents for licensure in Massachusetts. MASCD also sponsors the
Northeast ASCD Affiliate Conference each December. MASCD was a founding
member of this annual event.
In 2001, MASCD provided local arrangements for the ASCD Annual Conference
in Boston. Over 15,000 educators from around the country attended this
event.
MASCD has been recognized for excellence. Its books and Perspectives
newsletter have received Best Affiliate Publication Awards from ASCD.
How Do I Give?
Gifts to the Betty Allen MASCD Endowment Fund are accepted in many forms.
MASCD will acknowledge all gifts in writing.
CASH GIFTS
Cash gifts are the simplest and most popular type of charitable
contribution. A cash gift is considered to be made on the date it is
delivered or postmarked. Cash contributions are deductible by up to 50% of
the donor’s adjusted gross income. Any excess may be carried over for up to
five years.
Cash gifts may be made by check or credit card (VISA or MasterCard).
PLANNED GIFTS - WILLS
Making gifts through your will is one of the simplest and most realistic
ways for many people to make a significant contribution to MASCD. A bequest
can be made by creating a new will or adding a codicil to your present will
language.
Contributions through a will or grantor (self-trusteed) trust have become
a part of philanthropy in the United States. This type of gift allows an
individual to make major contributions that are, in many cases, larger than
those possible during the donor’s life.
GIFTS OF IRA OR OTHER RETIREMENT ASSETS
A fast-growing area of planned giving is the gift of an IRA, 401(K) plan,
or other retirement asset. A donor may specify MASCD as the designated
beneficiary of his/her retirement account.
GIFTS OF TANGIBLE PERSONAL PROPERTY
Gifts of tangible personal property may be accepted after review by the
MASCD Board. Review of appropriateness may include consideration of the
marketability, accuracy of the donor-provided appraisal, potential uses in
furthering MASCD’s operations, and capability to insure and safeguard
personal property pending a sale.
Please use this donation form to make your gift.
