Vision

MASCD is a strong, respected and clear voice on educational issues statewide and, as such, its professional opinion on public policy issues is routinely sought by legislators and policymakers. Proud to present breakthrough thinking in the quality and range of service it offers, MASCD provides varied and successful professional development opportunities as well as publications that are timely and influential. In all its endeavors, MASCD promotes best practice – reflecting the professionalism and expertise of its members – putting it at the vanguard of improving teaching and learning for all Massachusetts’ students.

MASCD collaborates effectively with other organizations, building strategic alliances where appropriate. MASCD utilizes the latest in technology to enhance communication and services, yet it never loses the human touch. Because of its deep commitment to excellence, MASCD is recognized and respected at both state and national levels. MASCD has established itself among the educational stewards in the state.

The Association is bold, fresh and reflective of the many perspectives of educators statewide. As membership continues to expand each year, MASCD mirrors the rich diversity of race, ethnicity, gender, and age of all educators in every district across the state.

MASCD models organizational responsibility by following governance procedures that are fair, equitable, fiscally sound, effective, and meet the standards set by ASCD and MASCD members.  

MASCD is a professional association which promotes quality teaching and learning in Massachusetts by fostering instructional and curriculum leadership among all educators.

Strategic Plan

Goal 1
TEACHING AND LEARNING 

MASCD will model and promote research-based, reflective practices that are in the vanguard of effective teaching and learning.

Strategies/Activities

a. Develop a programs and services strategic plan and interrelate all P & S activities and ensure they reflect a focus on T & L

b. Plan the next three years of T & L issues

c. Create developmental P & S which provide depth in T & L while enabling points of entry for varying degrees of knowledge and experience

d. Share the P & S plan with membership and partners

e. Collect, collate and interpret data from sales, participation and evaluations

Strategies Goal 2
 INFLUENCE

MASCD will be a credible, valued and clear voice on educational issues.

Strategies/Activities:

a.  Produce influential and focused publications, position papers on current issues

b. Develop process for urgent response

c.  Hold events which speak to pressing needs of educators

d.  Use a research-based approach

e.  Seek recognition through identified contacts and heightened use of media

f.  Have a presence in educational forums (Identify key groups and send representatives)

g. Ascertain ASCD positions on key issues for possible MASCD adoption

h. Participate with partners to further our mission

Goal 3
 DIVERSITY

MASCD's membership and Board of Directors will reflect the demographics of educators statewide, with respect to race, age, job role, ethnicity, and geography.

Strategies/Activities

a. Obtain and compare three years of demographic data about the membership and Board, review trends and prepare guidelines for recruitment

b. Use curriculum listserv and/or other electronic means to survey teachers about MASCD name recognition, perceptions and needs

c.  Develop programs and publications which appeal to educators new to the profession and urban educators

d. Propose and begin to implement a regional plan for MASCD membership

e. Support student chapters

Goal 4
 ALLIANCE

MASCD will establish and maintain strategic alliances to promote effective practices.

Strategies/Activities

a.  Identify potential allies and prioritize list

  • Communicate in writing with those organizations
  • Communicate peer to peer with those organizations

b. Develop and adopt a policy statement (determine criteria, e.g. focus on teachers)

c. Determine membership and commitment levels

d. Develop a list of technology resources which support our mission and vision and publish in Perspectives and on the web page

Goal 5
GOVERNANCE

MASCD will demonstrate organizational responsibility through the establishment and practice of sound governance procedures.

Strategies/Activities:

a. Align constitution with ASCD

b. Develop and maintain a realistic and balanced budget

c. Engage in periodic review of degree to which we are following our constitution

d.  Identify where improvement is necessary

e. Determine need for policy manual

f.  Develop a plan for building awareness of MASCD’s constitution and policies among members and the Board.
