FINANCE - prepares the annual budget and long-term financial plan with the short-term goal of expansion of revenue to support quality programs and the executive director position. The committee is chaired by the treasurer, Kevin McArdle. Al Galante also serves on the committee. GOVERNANCE - oversees the structure and function of the organization including setting and monitoring the budget, reviewing and revising the constitution and by-laws, reviewing rules and regulations governing ASCD affiliates, reviewing and recommending improvements in committee structures and functions, and overseeing the mission, goals and implementation of the strategic plan. The committee is chaired by the president, Isa Zimmerman. Betty Allen also serves on the committee. INFLUENCE/ADVOCACY - is charged with developing a public profile that enhances the mission of the organization. Work may include making legislative contacts, preparing position papers or policy briefs, reviewing and approving documents or positions which MASCD is asked to co-sign, and determining the organizational collaborations which the board undertakes in any given year. The advocacy committee needs people who are passionately committed to pursuing a more visible position for the organization and to influencing educational policy. MEMBERSHIP - analyzes membership data and designs efforts to increase diverse membership and services members are seeking. The committee is particularly looking for individuals interested in membership outreach activities and in helping to get existing members more actively involved in the organization. Jeff Lord, chair; Al Galante, Amy Jones, Bill Leccese, Roberta Neuman, Joe Walsh. NOMINATIONS - prepares a slate of nominees for the positions open on the Board of Directors. The committee is chaired by the past-president, Joe Walsh. Everyone contributes suggestions. PROGRAMS AND SERVICES - are the responsibility of all Board members who work with the executive director to design and implement Association activities. PUBLICATIONS - prepares the newsletter, Perspectives, and specialized mailings and communications to members. This committee needs members who will be actively involved in writing, editing and soliciting pieces and who are interested in expanding the nature and range of the organization’s publications as it becomes appropriate to do so. STUDENT CHAPTERS - seeks to strengthen the profession through the establishment of ASCD student chapters. Linda Olsen chairs the committee; Lauren Goldberg serves on the committee. elearning - focuses on the technology work of MASCD. It recommends policy for web site use and content, programs and practices which enhance and support the Association’s mission through the use of technology. It monitors state-wide issues around technology and education and suggests advocacy to the Influence Committee. It also keeps the Board informed of new developments which impact curriculum and instruction.
